International SEEFF conference Digitalization, Multimodality, Sustainability, on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of NSBS

On the occasion of celebrating its 30th anniversary, the Bulgarian National Freight Forwarding Association (NSBS) is organizing a number of events, the leading one being the 14th SEEFF international conference under the title "Digitalization, Multimodality, Sustainability".

 

The conference will be held on September 29, 2022 in Sofia Hotel Balkan, Sofia. Among the participants in the event will be a number of national and international partners and specialists from the transport, forwarding and logistics industry, including representatives of the forwarding associations from the region of Southeast Europe (SEEFF), the President of the International Federation of Forwarding Associations - FIATA, the members of the working groups Rail and Road to FIATA, representatives of CLECAT, etc.

 

1. Digital Logistics: opportunities and challenges
In the contemporary world digitalization of the business processes, becomes a must that can facilitate operations nevertheless pandemics and other limitations. Thanks to digitalization “Home office” as a new reality not only ensures continuity of the operations, but realizing hybrid workspace is beneficial in attracting and retaining employees and new generations.
At the same time requirements of different government and legal authorities on the Balkans still does not allow paperless process and in many aspects real functional e-governments in the region are only a “good wish”. How implementation of the of the e-FTI regulation, e-FBL, e-CMR can lead to improvements in this direction and what will be the impact of the cyber security issues.

 

2. Multimodality and supply chains disruptions: Role of the Freight forwarders
Global supply chains facing unprecedented disruptions, especially in maritime with its uncertainty and escalating rates. Market concentration and tendency ocean carriers to expand in air freight, inland logistics, terminal operations, freight forwarding, and customs brokerage puts serious pressure on the traditional freight forwarders and logistics operators. Railway connections from China to Europe via Russia suffers uncertainty and lose customers trust and even emerging new roads will be bottlenecked in the overloaded European infrastructure. Lack of public multimodal terminals in the region puts additional limitation for development of the multimodal services. How freight forwarders can overcome these constraints in order to offer competitive products to their customers.

 

3. Sustainable logistics: “Green deal”, consequences and challenges in SEE
Is the “Green deal” still buzzword for logistics players on the Balkans? Fit for 55 Package aims to reach the 2030 emissions reduction target of net 55%, impacting transport and logistics emissions. EU common framework for calculating GHG emissions of transport operations, named “Count Emissions EU”expected to be adopted in early 2023 and CLECAT efforts that voice of freight forwarders will be well considered. Is there a clarity how it’s implementation will influence the everyday operations and what challenges has to overcome.
